Colin Smith, a member of the Peekskill City School District Board of Education, says that if elected to the Peekskill Common Council in November he would leave his post on the school board.

Smith, an attorney based in Peekskill, addressed the issue on Facebook after a reader—commenting on The Peekskill Post’s article about the Democrat slate of candidates for mayor and Common Council—asked if he would still be serving on the school board.

“Yes, unless I am elected to Common Council in November, in which case I will have to step down from the BOE,” Smith said.

Previously the president of the Board of Education, Smith was re-elected to another three-year term in May of 2015.

Smith, along with Ramon Fernandez and Vanessa Agudelo, secured the party’s nomination for Common Council at a meeting Thursday night. Councilman Andre Rainey is the Democrat’s choice for mayor.
